Origami USA Convention

This work will be displayed at the 2007 Origami USA Convention which will be held from the 22nd until the 25th of June in New York..  This work of art is titled,"Life is Beautiful" and is made by Yami Yamauchi.  It consists of 420 pieces of "Pandora's Box" and 7 peices of "Fireworks"models which are both originals of Yami Yamauchi. 

Since the dimensions of this piece are 6ft x 8ft, it is much too large to ship out from L.A to New York.  I imagine he had more difficulty managing the transportation than he had folding all the papers for this peice.  Sadly, I did not get a chance to see this work with my own eyes, but I did recieve a CD full of pictures which were taken before his work was covered with a clear plastic cover.

After the convention, this art work is planned to be donated to a mental hospital in New York.  When I heard this, I was very impressed with the idea.  I am sure that all the patients, their family, and their visitors in the hospital will cheer up when they see this powerful art work with bursts of bright colors.

Origami U.S.A Convention 2007

６月２２日から２５日、NYにてOrigami U.S.A Convention 2007が開催されます。

このコンベンションでは、レベル別、また、新旧諸々のモデルを学ぶ折り紙クラス、折り紙に関する講演、折り紙作品の展示等があり、年に一度の”折り紙のお祭り”に世界中から折り紙仲間が集まる大規模なものです。

日本からも著名な折り紙作家の方々が招待客として参加され、世界的に評判高いものとなっています。

今年、左の作品をYami　Yamauchi（山内　洋一）さんが展示作品として出品されることになりました。ご自身のオリジナル作品”パンドラの箱”４２０個と”花火”で構成された幾何学的な美しい作品です。

 

そして、作品以上に、感動するのは作品のタイトル”Life is beautiful”という言葉、

先頃、日経新聞にも紹介されたYamiさんですが、折り紙を通じて築き上げてこられた人生観、人間愛がこの言葉に秘められているような気がします。

さらに、もう一つ、この作品が美しく光り輝く芸術品になるという話を。

コンベンション開催後、この作品がNY市内にある精神科の病院に寄付されることになったのです。心に病を持つ人、また、そのご家族の方々が、この作品に大きな勇気と希望を与えられることは、間違いないことでしょう。

The last two posts written in Japanese are posts announcing that Yami Yamauchi's article was published in a Japanese financial newspaper, Nippon Keizei Shinbun on June 1, 2007.  (Nippon Keizai Shinbun is a major newspaper published in Japan) 

The article titled, “Magic of Origami” are composed of memorable stories about his son, how origami took a part in his life, and how he came to be an origami creator for models such as “Fireworks.” 

As a new friend, I am always impressed to hear his philosophy on origami – origami is not only about folding paper to make a form but also articulate emotional expression; it has the power to connect people despite differences in identity and language.  He is one that always brings happiness to folding origami.
